“Pangku” (“On Your Lap”) is the directorial debut of Reza Rahadian, moving from in front of the camera to behind it with a gritty, realistic drama. Set in the 1990s along Java’s northern coast (Pantura), the film follows Sartika (Claresta Taufan), a struggling single mother working at a “kopi pangku” stall. The narrative explores her resilience as she navigates the harsh social realities and manipulative dynamics of her environment while seeking a better future for her child.

The film made waves internationally, winning four awards at the 2025 Busan International Film Festival, including the Audience Award and the FIPRESCI Award. The film also achieved a historic sweep at the Festival Film Indonesia (FFI) 2025, officially winning the prestigious Piala Citra for Best Feature Film. Alongside the top prize, it secured three other major awards: Best Supporting Actress for Christine Hakim, Best Art Direction, and Best Original Screenplay for Reza and Felix K. Nesi.
