“1 Kakak 7 Ponakan” is a moving family drama directed by Yandy Laurens, adapted from Arswendo Atmowiloto’s legendary 90s series. The story follows Moko (Chicco Kurniawan), a young architect forced to abandon his dreams to become the sole guardian of his seven nieces and nephews after a family tragedy. The film captures the raw pressure of the “sandwich generation” as Moko balances his personal life with Maurin (Amanda Rawles) against the chaotic demands of his new household.

The film’s official poster powerfully illustrates this burden, depicting Moko awake alone in the middle of the night, eyes weary but resolute, while his seven nieces and nephews are scattered in deep sleep around him. This visual serves as a literal and metaphoric representation of the “sandwich generation,” highlighting the isolation and immense weight he carries as the sole provider and protector. This poignant imagery, combined with Chicco Kurniawan’s Best Actor win at the 2025 IMAA, helped the film resonate with over 1.2 million viewers and secure a Piala Citra nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
